After 2 1/2 days on the road we finally arrive in El Paso. It was 102 degrees everyday we were there, but the humidity was only 14% so it was hot, but bearable. Then on our last night there we had one of the dust/sand storms we had been warned about. The wind howled all night long and you couldn't see the mountains because of all the dust and sand in the air. You could also taste it in the air when you went out. Interesting and a new experience for all of us.
Our next stop on the second day was at White Sands, NM. It is sand dunes in the middle of the desert and mountain. It is kind of bizarre. There is so much sand that blows off the mountains and around the area that they have to use road graders to keep the road passable. This is also where the military tests lots of their missles and they even close the road and area at times when the military is testing missles.
The next day after graduation we headed to El Paso with Josh and Kristin to help them drive their cars down there. That is where Josh will be stationed for a year and then he will go to San Antonio for 3 years residency in Anesthesiology. But back to the trip to El Paso. We spent 12 hours on the road the first day and made it as far as Amarillo, TX. Then the next day we spent about 10 more hours and got to Las Cruses, NM. The following picture was taken when we stopped in Roswell, NM for lunch. If you don't know, Roswell is where they said they saw aliens in the 50's and the town still capitalizes on that claim to fame. Check out the sign under the Arby's sign.
Congratulations! You all are in our prayers as you adjust to your new location and new responsibilities. Thanks for posting... read more
